Backup Solutions

Backups & Data Recovery

You've heard it before: "There are two kinds of computer owners: Those who have lost important data, and those who will." When disaster strikes, whether it takes the form of a computer malfunction, virus, a flood or simple human error, you need to be able to recover, at least, your essential data files.

Through our partnership with a leading on-line storage provider, we are proud to offer state of the art electronic vaulting. Through an encrypted Internet connection, we can back up your data to our secure facility for safe off-line storage. Through our backup services, we safeguard your data from disasters, human error, viruses, power outages and hard drive crashes. Through our service, recovery of information becomes a simple point and click operation. You need only select which files are to be restored, and within a matter of seconds the data is recovered.

Benefits:

  • Easy to use interface to back up and recover your data.

  • More cost effective than tape backups.

  • No more dragging tapes to an offsite storage vault.

  • Compliance with HIPPA regulations for health care providers.

What's the Value of Your Data?
Just exactly what is the value of your data? Aside from your people, and perhaps equally as important to the continuity of your business, your data defines who you are and where and with whom you've been as a business. In fact, it is irreplaceable. 93% of the companies without disaster recovery plans were out of business within 5 years of a disaster. Of businesses that lost their records in a fire, 44% never reopened and 30% of those that did failed to survive beyond 3 years.

How secure is your data now?
If you backup to tape and don't take the tape off site, any disaster destroys your data. Even if you take your backup tapes off site, how you transport and care for them is extremely important because tape, while portable, is fragile and vulnerable to heat and cold. Tape wears out and must not only be rotated, but also replaced on a regular and periodic basis. If you set up your tape backup system over a year ago, the tape drive model you are using is, in all likelihood, no longer in production. The new model, even if made by the same manufacturer, may not be compatible with your old tape. And, how good is your backup anyhow? Very few small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) test the quality of their backup by performing a test restore. Restores are, after all, very time consuming. Just because the system sends you a message that the backup was completed, doesn't mean that the data was successfully backed up.

How safe could your data be?
Data Storage Corporation operates a secure data center in our own facility, near but outside of a major metropolitan area. The data center itself has limited card-key, biometric access, even within the DSC community, and is protected by battery, motor generator and FM 200 gas fire protection. The data itself is encrypted to military specifications at 128 bit AES levels. And, because your data is password and encryption key protected before it leaves your computer, only you have access. No one but you, even hacking into your backup transmissions, can see your data.

It is as safe as you want it to be.

What else?
Normally, small and medium businesses retain old backups for 5-7 days. If you have an undetected problem with a virus, or require an older version of your data, it may no longer be available. With DSC, the default retention policy is 30 days, but you can set your retention level to whatever is most reasonable for your business. Your sensitive company data is really at considerably less risk when stored remotely at Data Storage Corporation's secure data center. Your backup is scheduled, but also can be performed on demand. And, you have global access to all your data with your own password and encryption key.

It is, after all, your data.
